I have worked in tech for a long time, navigating unimaginable change. What has remained the same, however, is that people only notice the technology when it doesn’t work; the outcry is immediate on the Eastchester Parents Facebook page when Verizon goes down!
Government is the same. Most people only notice local government when the garbage isn’t picked up, pot holes emerge, or storefronts begin to shutter downtown.
It’s unfortunate because when government works, amazing things happen. Roads are paved, film crews from Netflix arrive, 14 new businesses open, COVID test kits are distributed on Christmas Eve, new police officers are hired, we watch movies in the park and smile as our children march down Main Street on the hunt for Halloween candy and then, end the year with a balanced budget despite a historic loss in parking revenue.
The current Board accomplished all these things and more, in an incredibly difficult year, by putting its residents first, and making Tuckahoe better for it. This is a government that works.
However, now is not the time to sit on our laurels. Cara and I have pledged to focus on economic development, support for families and seniors, and invest in our police, DPW, and flood mitigation. We will fight to make it happen, and keep within the tax cap.
But, I want to add something; we will also work to unite our community, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as a neighbors and friends. I have knocked on hundreds of doors during the campaign and this, above all else, is what I’ve heard Tuckahoe wants, regardless of party affiliation.
So, I promise, if elected, to spend the next two years, building the bridges, having the hard conversations, finding the consensus that brings us back together. It is time to end partisan politics, the nastiness, and the outrage politics. It’s time to expect more of your Village Trustees. I humbly ask for your vote on March 15.
