As we look to the year just past for clues as to what 2022 might bring, there are many reasons for optimism in our Village.
We’ve already seen what a dramatic difference vision, transparency and inclusiveness can make in Village government, under the leadership of Mayor Andino.
The pandemic made much of 2021 difficult. But it was also an exciting year in Tuckahoe, highlighted by the Board’s astounding list of initiatives and accomplishments.
Most notably, a comprehensive response to COVID-19, including several testing clinics, on-site and home-bound vaccine clinics, and the distribution of PPE and home antigen testing kits. The Board restored membership in the Community Development Block Grant, which allowed the Village to apply for about a million dollars in grants to update parks, sidewalks, and sewers. The Board also responded swiftly after Hurricane Ida, going door-to- door to assess needs, delivering pumps and other equipment, distributing information about FEMA, and helping residents with FEMA applications. To help preserve Tuckahoe’s rich history and historic buildings, the Board formed a Tuckahoe Historic Preservation Task Force. You might also notice all the newly paved roads throughout the Village. All this was done while keeping taxes down and maintaining a healthy fund balance, despite the large loss of commuter parking revenue.
In 2021, we also saw the addition of Cara Kronen’s dynamic voice as a Trustee. In a short nine months, Cara organized Tuckahoe Cares Day, a village-wide litter collection and cleanup day and several Movies in the Park events during the summer. She worked directly with businesses along Main Street and Columbus Avenue to hold the first ever Creepy Candy Crawl, which drew hundreds of families. Cara also achieved designation for Tuckahoe as a Livable Communities Village by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, which helps the Village access more resources for our Seniors. I’m excited to confirm that Cara will seek a full term as Trustee in the Village election on March 15th. We will select a running mate at the January caucus.
This next battle is right around the corner! Please donate now to support Cara. With victories this March we can be sure that next year at this time, we’ll know Tuckahoe’s future is even brighter.
Sincerely,
Julie Gurdin
