Update from Democratic Chair Nicholas Naber

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy during these trying times. I would like to provide you with a brief update on the Tuckahoe Village Election.

As you may have heard, due to the coronavirus, Omayra and Cara’s campaign came to a halt two days before Election Day (March 18th). We expect the Village Election to be rescheduled for sometime in June, however, we are awaiting further guidance from Governor Cuomo’s office. We will keep you posted.

The Tuckahoe Democratic Committee is very concerned about the health and safety of our residents, which is why we have contacted our state representatives to explore the possibility of implementing a mail-in ballot system for our village election, just as we are doing for the Presidential Primary.

This past week, we received confirmation from Assemblywoman Amy Paulin that, in light of the coronavirus, ALL residents qualify to receive an absentee ballot and vote by mail. You can download an absentee ballot application and check off “Temporary Illness” when completing the form. To be clear, you do not need to be sick with the coronavirus (or other illness) to select this option. If you are a resident who simply wants to limit your exposure on Election Day to protect yourself and your family, you can use the “Temporary Illness” option for this particular election.

Last month, we were contacted by several residents who applied for an absentee ballot and either received a ballot for a different village election or didn’t receive a ballot at all. If you (or anyone you know) had this issue, we ask that you please contact us ASAP and we will ensure that the correct ballot is delivered to your address.

As for the campaign, in light of recent events, and in an effort to pull together as one community, we felt it was appropriate to suspend campaign efforts at this time and remove our lawn signs throughout the village. There will be an opportunity for campaigning, but Omayra and Cara feel that now is not the time in the midst of a health crisis, which has had a very real impact on our community. As we move closer to Election Day, we hope that we can count on your support by displaying our lawn sign once again.

And finally, we would like to thank you all for following the guidance and precautions from the State to help mitigate this virus. We are all truly in this together. If there is ever anything our committee or Omayra and Cara can do to help you and your family, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Stay well,

Nicholas Naber
