Tuckahoe's Bright Future: A Letter from Julie Gurdin, Tuckahoe Democratic Committee Chair

As we look to the year just past for clues as to what 2022 might bring, there are many reasons for optimism in our Village.

We’ve already seen what a dramatic difference vision, transparency and inclusiveness can make in Village government, under the leadership of Mayor Andino.

The pandemic made much of 2021 difficult. But it was also an exciting year in Tuckahoe, highlighted by the Board’s astounding list of initiatives and accomplishments.

How to spot a fake profile

UPDATE March 14: The profile of Kaylen Davis has been deleted or disabled, less than 24 hours following the posting of this blog on social media.

A pattern of deceit

Local Republicans have attempted to infiltrate Democratic social media and manipulate opinions for months. In this short blog post, we will introduce you to the most recent fake profile.

Before we start, how can we forget the following creative profiles which appeared during the Tara Conte campaign last fall:

(Photo of Andrew Breitbart)

(Lee Harvey Oswald meet Kamala Harris?)

How to deceive voters with a fake profile

Step 1: First, take on a persona. Who are you trying to pretend to be and for what reason?

For this example, we illustrate the fake profile of someone who want to appear friendly with Democrats and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Clue #1: Kaylen Davis does not exist on the Westchester county voter roll, no one knows her in real life in either Eastchester, Tuckahoe or New Rochelle and she is new to local discussion groups. Iona also verified that no one by that name every attended the college.

-----

Step 2: Choose compelling imagery.

On January 21, Kaylee Davis went all out: Breonna Taylor illustrations, Biden/Harris and anti-fascism watermarks, Martin Luther King Quote.

Clue #2: Trying too hard and changing your profile images a few days before the Tuckahoe caucuses.

-----

Step 3: Follow people, make friends.

Kaylen seems to be ONLY interested in politics, and despite being from New Rochelle, really interested in Tuckahoe politics for some reason.

Clue #3: Being too focused on political interests and following people on both sides of the aisle, despite being seemingly uninvolved in local politics. Then start to mention @tuckahoedems but block all their members so they can't see what you post.

-----

Step 4: Start to use your profile to seed doubt and mislead.

Kaylen challenges Democratic posts and expresses support for the Republican opponents, all under the guise of being a Democrat herself.

Clue #4: Kaylen is not on the voter roll (we already exposed that). Kaylen also forgot about this post from 2015, the day after the November election. She seemed to be a big supporter of Sheila Marcotte back then.

-----

Wrap up

Let’s wrap it up with this hypocritical post from Sheila Marcotte who seems to be following Kaylen closely enough to know what she was blocked from some local Facebook groups (not Tuckahoe Democrats). Meanwhile, Town Council Member Sheila has blocked countless Democrats in town from viewing her OWN Facebook profile or anything she posts, while she uses the platform as a primary mean to share information (and misinformation) with residents.

Tuckahoe Democrats Endorse Tara Conte for Eastchester Town Board

As a Tuckahoe resident, it is your duty and privilege to vote in the Eastchester town board election on November 3rd, 2020.

Tara Conte has been preparing to serve the Town of Eastchester and Villages of Tuckahoe and Bronxville for years. Her public service began 20 years ago in the City of Yonkers where she supervises a Parks and Recreation program for people with special needs. And, three years ago, Eastchester residents chose Tara for a seat on the Eastchester Board of Education where she acts as a liaison with the Community Relations Committee placing her in the unique position to advocate for both parents and their children as well as the community at large.

Tara is a full time working mother who is navigating the new world of hybrid learning with help from her father Neil, an involved and devoted grandparent who rounds out their three generation household. Her concerns about raising children in the community are the same concerns you share. Her campaign promise of “People Before Politics” aims to put transparency and accountability in local government. She brings an alternative voice that expresses a viewpoint formed without the baggage of the past politics or allegiance to the decades of Republican control of the Town government. Tara does not believe in TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! Residents of varying political affiliations in Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville deserve a say in how their taxes are spent. YOU deserve a say in how your taxes are spent.

We have less than three weeks to work hard to defeat Tara’s opponent; a candidate who is deeply entrenched in the Republican politics of yesteryear. Three years ago, Sheila Marcotte lost her seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators; a post she held for a number of years but at no point attempted to write, or pass any legislation benefiting the taxpayers of our district. Even worse, as Chair of the Budget Committee, her fiscal mismanagement had a hand in delivering County Executive Rob Astorino’s $30 million deficit in the County budget, weakening Westchester County’s ability to weather the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Make no mistake about it: she is NOT a fiscal conservative. She is a political operative who kicked the fiscal can down the road, knowing that she and Astorino would be voted out of office in 2017 due to their devotion and loyalty to Donald Trump.

Marcotte’s sole achievement while working for the Westchester Board of Legislators might be her vote to indefinitely extend the contract for the Gun Show at the Westchester County Center. Ironically, it turned out to be the very thing that motivated the current County Legislator Damon Maher to unseat her in 2017!

Always aligned with the Conservative agenda, Marcotte voted to revoke domestic partner benefits to gay Eastchester employees. Her alignment with bombastic Radical Right fringe characters like Jeannine Pirro, Rob Astorino, and Patrick Lynch indicate that she feels entitled to ignore those taxpayers who don’t agree with the Trumpian rhetoric that she and other Republican career politicians stand behind. Read more about the anti-women’s rights, homophobic, bigoted legislative priorities of the party she endorses: www.cpnys.org/legislative-priorities.

In short, SHEILA MARCOTTE HAS BEEN KICKED OUT OF OFFICE AND WE NEED TO KEEP HER OUT!

Reject the Radical Right agenda and elect Tara Conte to the Eastchester Town Board on November 3rd. End the ALL REPUBLICAN board representation and ensure you have a voice at the table that respects and protects your values.

Tara is  running on both the Democratic and Independence Lines, with bipartisan support from a number of local Republicans who are fed up with the hyper-politicized, angry and divisive rhetoric that has taken over our town.

Tara Conte is endorsed by US Representative Eliot Engel, State Senator Shelley Mayer, Assembly member Amy Paulin, County Executive George Latimer, Legislators Damon Maher and Ruth Walter, Tuckahoe trustees Renee Howell and Omayra Andino, and Bronxville Democratic Committee.

BERT BALADASSARRA      815

CARA KRONEN                 777

Thirty ballots have been objected to. The decision on their fate is expected to be rendered Monday October 5th in supreme court in White Plains. Election Results Update - Sep 26

On behalf of Omayra and Cara, THANK YOU for your steadfast support and encouragement this year. It has meant so much! Due to the Pandemic and the postponement of the March Village election, we ran two distinct campaigns- one pre COVID and one during COVID. It has been a tumultuous yet productive time- and we know we could not have had any of our successes without your support!

Here’s an update on the election results as of 9/16/2020:

Danny Lang - 789

Omayra Andino - 740

Bert Baldessarra- 739

Cara Kronen - 694

We are disappointed in the results. Cara Kronen worked so hard to earn the trust and respect of residents and volunteers and she can certainly walk away with her head held high. We are so proud of her.

Omayra, while 1 vote ahead, is anxiously awaiting the absentee ballot count, which will determine if she remains in her seat as Village Trustee. Every ballot is being scrutinized and we hoping to have results to share during the week of September 28.

As you can see, these elections can literally come down to 1 vote and this Election highlights how much EVERY vote REALLY does count.

More to come soon...we'll reach out when we have updates.

Cara's response

This past weekend, you may have received a letter from my opponents regarding the upcoming Tuckahoe Village election.

To be clear, never once have I suggested that the Tuckahoe police department be defunded, as this letter would have residents believe. I have also never heard this from Trustee Andino or Trustee Howell. To suggest this, as my opponents have, is both reckless and disappointing.

Words matter and facts matter. My opponents could not possibly know what my positions are regarding the police or any other important issues. They have refused to be party to any debate or candidate forum, despite being asked repeatedly by our campaign and by the League of Woman Voters. In fact, Trustee Lang and Mr. Baldassarra have not even had the courtesy to reply to any of these requests.

It is my belief that backbone of our great democracy are well informed voters who make decisions based on the merits and values of each candidate. If my opponents refuse to speak in a public forum about their policy positions, they are denying residents the ability to make the most informed choice. As it stands, there is no way for new Trustee candidates to formally express their views and positions to Village Residents.

This is one reason that Trustee Andino and I have made transparency and accountability the cornerstone of our campaign.

If elected, I commit to serving this village with integrity and trustworthiness. I will not engage in fear-mongering, alternative facts, or other divisive tactics simply to remain in power. I will work alongside Trustees Andino and Howell and other elected officials towards inclusive government for all residents, not a select few. Please don’t forget to vote on Tuesday September 15th. Thank you for your continued support.

Facts matter. Your vote matters.

Elect Omayra and Cara on September 15.
